We've probably met before. I was the quiet girl in class who always had her nose in a book. When I wasn't reading, I was writing poems and short stories. It was in middle school, when I was given a double deck cassette recorder, that my passion for story-telling went from the page to the speakers. I often forced my family to sit through magazine-type radio shows full of news stories, features, weather forecasts and much more.

I attended the Academy of Radio and Television Broadcasting in Hunting Beach while working behind the scenes at the CBS station KLSX in Los Angeles. I saw the inner workings of the various shows as I ran the board for the syndicated Howard Stern program, worked promotional events with Tom Leykis and guided guests of the Tim Conway Show into the station.

After graduating from the academy, I got my first on-air gig at a tiny station in Craig, Colorado.  Everyone wore many hats at KRAI.  I was the morning co-host and news anchor, but also covered news as a reporter in the field. The owner, manager and midday host of KRAI (all the same guy, of course) would give me daily critiques, and I credit him with helping me make the leap to a major market radio station after just one year.

I was hired by Clearchannel's 50,000 watt blowtorch of the west KOA, initially working as a news writer for Colorado's Morning News. I soon started delivering newscasts on-air and within the first couple of years I was co-hosting my own show on the weekends and filling-in for the co-host and news anchor during the week.  During my tenure in Denver, I spent several years anchoring the news in morning drive on KOA's sister station, KHOW, while also continuing to support Colorado's Morning News as a producer, hosting CMN on Saturdays, and filling in for the co-host.

My reputation for being a utility player, a quick learner and a talented writer and anchor led to me becoming the Internship Director for the newsroom at KOA. I scheduled and trained a number of interns, delivering feedback on their work and helping them discover their own unique talents. I continued being the newsroom teacher throughout my career, even as I moved to other markets.

I anchored the afternoon newscasts and covered live breaking news at KFYI in Phoenix for many years. During that time I had the opportunity to represent the station at a number of public events, including acting as Master of Ceremonies for the monthly meetings of Business Clubs America Metro Phoenix.

When my family moved to Seattle ten years ago, I knew we had finally found our home.

While working at Seattle's KIRO Radio, I continued expanding my duties.  In addition to anchoring the afternoon newscasts, covering breaking news and training new hires, I began to produce longform feature stories on a regular basis. I filled in as a co-host on the Ron and Don Show, allowing me to get comfortable with a new type of talk format.  I also had the opportunity to start doing endorsements, working directly with clients.

During the chaos of the Coronavirus Pandemic, I began announcing on KUOW, Seattle's NPR Station.  I also began creating unique podcast content, from conception and creation to delivery and marketing. And, I also spent some time working as a substitute in our local school district. But, that is a story for another time...

Right now I have the pleasure of anchoring the Afternoon News on KNWN alongside Rick VanCise and hosting a podcast, The Deeper Dive with Kim Shepard. This combination allows me the freedom to cover stories from every corner and in a variety of formats, including short updates, longform produced pieces and one-on-one interviews.

On a more personal note, I have four thriving children, a small flock of chickens, the best dog in the world, the most annoying dog in the world and one exceptional husband. When I'm not on the air or with my family, you'll find me riding a horse up on Taylor Mountain, paddling around Rattlesnake Lake or playing in my garden.
